The Complex of Upper Secondary Schools of Mechanics, Electrics and Electronics in Toruń

Our working team consists of seven teachers. We all work in the Complex of Mechanic, Electric and Electronic Schools, which is a partner in the project that is being realised. ZSMEiE is a secondary technical school where youth acquire education in the spheres of information technology, mechatronics, electronics and electrics. We teach different subjects, we carry out different tasks. However, we are all united by common zeal for work with students (772 boys and only 3 girls between the age of 16 and 19) and by work for the benefit of Leonardo da Vinci project as well.

How did it start?

In September 2002 our school got a fax informing us about Linking Up – for Mobility in Europe Programme. With our head teacher’s approval I decided to take care of this programme thinking that maybe something would come of it, that maybe it is worth trying…. I took the fax and went to Lucyna. Lucyna read it and said only one thing ‘send e-mails’. So I sent to 40 different Norwegian schools and institutions. In reply I received 3 e-mails among which I found a letter of request for cooperation signed by Øyvind Ingstad.

Why Leonardo?

Simply because in 2004 Linking Up Programme came to an end and we, knowing our common needs and capabilities, still wanted to cooperate with Sør – Trondelag Fylkeskommune. That is why, when Øyvind suggested that we should take part in the Leonardo da Vinci pilot project, we signed it without hesitation.

How was the Guideline for parents within the framework of Work Package number 3 coming into existence?

The best ideas (Lucyna’s and mine) were being created between 7a.m. and 8.15 a.m. while we were having our morning coffee on the back of classroom number 19, before the lesson started. Then, after a long school break Bogusia or Renata came and added their ideas or ruined whole our work because according to them it was something wrong with the guideline for parents. And the meetings on Thursdays in the forenoon when we quarrelled almost about every single word in the description of the exercises for parents.. And Sylvia, who as a teacher of economy uses professional vocabulary perfectly, was making last corrections. Finally, our work was translated into English. First, Magda was translating it and now it is Ewa who is replacing her.

Effects of our work

  • Creating guideline for parents within the framework of Leonardo da Vinci Pilot Project entitled ‘Services of vocational counselling in developing the spirit of entrepreneurship among students in secondary schools’.

  • Working out multimedia presentation entitled ’Developing the spirit of entrepreneurship among youth in secondary schools. Vocational Counselling.

  • Instructing the teacher staff of ZSMEiE in terms of organising and training in vocational counselling in technical secondary school.

  • Preparing the description of the examples of mini entrepreneurship among youth of ZSMEiE for the sake of Guideline for Students within the framework of Work Package 2.

  • Dissemination of information about the pilot project among members of school community.

  • Including teachers, students, their parents and local mentors as well in the realization of the project.

  • Tightening old bonds and making new friends among international group taking part in the project.

During our work…

1. We drank 17 litres of coffee and 8 litres of tea.
2. We ate 29 buns.
3. 2 toners were used up – one black and one colourful.
4. We used up 1 carton of A-4 white paper which gives about 2500 sheets of paper and over 300 colourful ones.
5. We used up 5 markers.
6. Lucyna’s computer monitor got broken.
7. ………………and it is not all……………
